My Five Star Review of Talon: S.S. Trinity
Written by Jay Michael Wright 2nd
This edition is an origin story that introduces the readers to Talon a main character that through great tragedy is born a new personality. Talon is a young man that loses his family and through extraordinary circumstances becomes more than just someone but really something evil who only wants revenge for the loss of his family. This tale of death and rebirth is filled with a blood lust that the reader can taste and only right so given that the demon talon has become is a vampire. These are vampires the likes of which resemble movies like the Lost Boys in terms of violence, bloodshed and the need to feed and use fear in order to fulfill the need of blood. Talon and his Mistress are not vampires like those in Twilight series instead they are demonic beasts filled with blood lust and want to inflict terror in their victims. Talons main drive is revenge and his mistress wants control and blood which leads Talon to become in control of his senses yet a near slave for the blood of his victims. The setting is later after Talons conversion and his mistress has found the killers of his family and the ship the killers are on is where this epic scene of violence and revenge unfolds. Get ready for a fast paced story, a story filled with action and shadowed by darkness on the high seas of a great ocean. This was a short story filled with just enough back story about the characters and the story to become hooked and wanting more. What affected me was the pure rage for revenge and the power to achieve what is needed to gain the desire of revenge. This story is not for the faint of heart and I was very pleased by the ambience and description of the ship and characters involved. The dialogue was a perfect balance between action, intrigue and story flow. I look forward to the next story involving Talon and his new family because I sense a reawaking of talons humanity.

An excellent romp of nastiness! Wright manages to spin a new twist on old themes. Looking forward to a complete novel from this guy!

A quick read, unfortunately, because the characters are delightfully vicious and yet compelling. This isn’t the story of a good guy, but Talon is a complicated guy. For such a short story, there’s a lot going on. The writing is clear and concise, and you know exactly all you need to know but not enough to satisfy your curiosity. There is just something about the narrator – Talon – that makes you really want more. His Sire (or possibly Dam – I’m never sure of the correct terminology!) is a psycho, and his girlfriend is a chip off the old block, but somehow *likeable*.

This is a quick visit to their world, and I’d really like more. The vampire hunters – the Birds of Prey – are an intriguing creation. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes, so the length of the book doesn’t reflect the depth of characters.

All in all, a sexy little start to what I hope will develop into a series.

Fabulous

I really liked the old brutal vampire style but I would have liked more description of the characters, hopefully this will come in the next book

8 total reviews for a 5 out of 5 star ranking. This isn’t your normal Vampire series. It’s something a bit more, something nastier. Revenge, cruelty, and signs of Talon’s humanity peeking through all the madness. It’s part of a series that kicks off officially in July, but prequels and side stories and novels are planned. This will be a whole universe set to rival the other grand Vampire worlds in literature. For only 99 cents, this first story (an actual novelette, NOT a short) is a steal. So why not sink your fangs into something vicious? Talon can be purchased HERE.

Major Writing Updates

Hello followers and people maybe finding this blog for a first time. Got ALOT of updates so let’s get to them!

Firstly, “Where Old Acquiantances Be Forgot,” the Dragon Rocketship short story/novelette release of mine has been given the final official release date of October 31, Halloween! This is very exciting for me as it will be my first “stand alone Jay Michael Wright II” release. No anthologies, one name on the cover and it’s mine. Forgive me if I dance around and act a fool but it’s almost Christmas morning for me with this one.

If you didn’t know, “WOABF” is set in the presumedly haunted REAL abandoned Bryce asylum, located in or near Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The story happens on New Year’s Eve, which has something to do with the title but not everything. It’s a horror piece and everyone who’s read it seemed to get chills or have bad dreams over it so please come check out a touch of Alabama horror.

Secondly, The Death & Pestilence Anthology from Sandspress Publishing is gone to the last steps before setting a final release date. My story in this anthology is entitled “The Board” and has to do with a widower who is gifted a very odd gift not long after his wife’s death. If you lost the most important person in your life, how far would you go to get them back?

Thirdly, the Crossroads in the Dark II anthology from Burning Willow Press has had the final edit of the story sent and wheels are quickly turning on getting a release date. My story in this great collection is entitled “Cemetery Mountain” and tales the supposedly true Urban Legend of a Satanic Cult using a church that only appears on full moons and the Devil’s Bible itself.

Please, give my work a look! Share the blog or my other links listed above.

A World of Updates

BIG NEWS: “Where Old Acquaintances Be Forgot” (From TDR Publishing) is completely edited, being formatted, and basically just waiting on the cover design. My FIRST stand alone story (although a short story) with JUST MY NAME on the cover will soon be available on Amazon. Expect a release party when it happens.

Also, Talon: Any Port is a Storm (from Inkception Books) will be coming out in an anthology on 10/15. This is a VERY different take on the Talon series as it’s NOT told by Nicky, is in 3rd person, and is a horror/mystery type element. If you know the characters, you’ll figure out what’s up pretty quick but for MOST people this will be their very first taste of the Talonverse and I hope should get some buzz started to go with the other prequel works I’m working on.

Death and Pestilence (from Sandspress Pub) is set to come out around Halloween. Another anthology (this one NOT Talon related) BUT still set in Alabama and features a very good friend of mine as the name of the protagonist (Jamie Peffer). I went to gifted classes with this chap when we were both just kids so always good to mention people you love in your stories. Also, Jamie’s deceased wife mentioned in the story is named “Melody” which is my oldest sister’s name.

Cross Roads in the Dark 2 (from Burning Willow Press) will come out around Halloween and features a short story that I wrote about a local Alabama legend called “Cemetery Mountain.” If you’ve never heard the story, you should go research it. This is one where all I did was take the existing story and wrote around it. Amazingly creepy stuff and part of my Alabama Horror series.

Talon Updates

Have been really busy, not just working on Talon projects but getting my short horror story “Where Old Acquaintances be Forgot” ready for release on kindle.  But there is some new news to share!

I have not one, but TWO Talon prequel stories being considered for horror anthologies.  The pay is minimal but the exposure for the characters and my name is what I’m going for.  I should know by mid-August if these two stories are going to be released.

I am actively searching out anthologies for dark fantasy.  I want to put as many Talon prequels out there as I can before the novel launches 7/22/17.  This is an exciting time with lots and lots of dark fantasy and horror coming your way.

Death & Pestilence set to go!

The Sandspress anthology “Death & Pestilence” has finally been sent off for formatting. I have a short story in it entitled “The Board.” The tale of a man grieving his wife’s recent passing and the odd gift of a Ouija Board that someone decides to give him. ‪#‎Horror‬

Some Updates

Well, lot’s been going on.  Firstly, I’d like to announce that “Cemetery Mountain” has been picked up for the Burning Willow Press anthology Crossroads coming out around Halloween.

Still the “The Board” coming out in the Sandspress Anthology “Death & Pestilence,” also coming out around Halloween.

“The Initiation” is going to come out in the anthology “1313 Continental Drive.”  Every room of the house has a story from different horror author.  To put it bluntly, that’s one VERY haunted house.

The piece, “The Devil’s Mistress” will be coming out in a charity anthology, title yet to be determined.

The first edits have been done on “Where Old Acquaintances Be Forgot” has been done.  A little more polish and this Alabama horror story will be available as a stand alone kindle short story on Amazon.

Just received the contracts for “Murder Creek,” another short story, and “The Rise of UMBRA,” my sci fi novel.  Can’t wait to get the ball running on these two.

Talon: The Spider’s Web has been given a tentative release date of 7/22/17.

I am working on some Talon prequels which I hope to self publish myself to get some buz going on everyone’s favorite Vampire.  The current project is called, “Talon: The Blood Countess,” which involves him interacting with lady Elizabeth Bathory.

So that’s what all is on the works right now.  Busy, busy, busy….

Any Port In A Storm Excerpt (A Talon Short Story)

Looking terrified, Tessa blurted it out, “Someone here is a murderer!”

Terry knew it was true, but he didn’t want it just announced like that. “Wait, ma’am, we don’t know that for a fact.” Terry didn’t even believe his own lie. As soon as he said it, he regretted it.

“Bullshit!” Gunner shouted. “Mr. Wadsworth didn’t skin himself, and the way I look at it, there’s only one person here who knows how to skin a person!”

Alabama stood up. “If you’re making accusations, Gunner, I advice you come over here and say it to my God damned face! This is your bar. How do we know this isn’t all just some kind of elaborate trap of yours? Maybe this is what he does. Wait for a big snow storm to trap people here so he can get his kicks murderin’ folks!”

“How dare you, you son of a bitch!” Gunner screamed as he raised his rifle.

Alabama returned the gesture and the two men were both staring down barrels of death. “For that matter,” Alabama added, “didn’t nobody go missin’ ’til Terry got here. How do we know he has a baby on the way? How do we know he’s even married? It could be his ass doin’ every bit of it!”

Gunner looked suspiciously at Terry and positioned himself where he could shoot at either Alabama or Terry if he had to. “Whoa!” Terry said. “You think I’m doing this?”

Alabama shrugged. “Why the hell not? For that matter, why not Nicky?”

Gunner scoffed. “His wife was the first to go missing, Alabama! Now you’re just spouting off bullshit to keep the focus off of you!”

“And why do you say that, Gunner? It’s not like a man ain’t never killed his wife before! Hell, I could have killed my ex-wife a few times.” Alabama blared.

Nicky stood up and tossed the liquor bottle he had at Alabama’s head. “And it’s shit like that which makes me think you killed my wife!” Nicky barked.

Spitting in the floor, Alabama’s eyes glared. “Boy, you best watch your fuckin’ mouth!”

“Or what?” Nicky said, walking straight up to Alabama. “You gonna kill me?” To Terry’s disbelief, Nicky grabbed the barrel of Alabama’s rifle and pressed it to his chest. “You going to kill me, Alabama? You got the fucking balls to do it? Do it! You already killed my wife! Finish what the fuck you started you piece of shit!”
